Workshops & Courses
With Dana Baniel
9 December 2017, 15:00–17:00
In this playshop Dana will take a systematic approach to trying, improving and maybe achieving coming up to a handstand within a playful and supportive environment.
Working toward a handstand is a gradual and integrated process, building the foundation over time with patience and care and learning to overcome our fears and physical barriers.
This workshop is designed to improve strength, flexibility and agility and provide the necessary tools to ‘fly’.
Part 1: A short talk about the reasons Dana likes practicing handstands, and its benefits.
Part 2: warm up to wrists, neck and shoulders and a warming pranayama (kapalabhati).
Part 3: A flow practice focusing on core, shoulders, spine and hamstrings.
Part 4: Alignment, on the floor and against the wall.
Part 5: getting upside down; 1. Dynamic and fun playtime where we will use various jumps and cartwheels across the studio to help the student lift hips and feet over their shoulders and ultimately into a lovely straight handstand. 2. Partners work 3. Against the wall.
Part 6: A closing sequence and relaxation.
Some experience of yoga recommended, however there is no requirement to be able to do a handstand already!
Meet the Teachers
Donna’s spiritual journey began after experiencing a solar eclipse in India in 1995.
Shortly after that, she took a silent Vipassana retreat followed by a number of others, which changed her as a person and prepared her for when she found yoga, via an Ashtanga Vinyasa class which she happened across on her way to the beach in Goa in 1998.
